He was predeceased by: his parents, Roy Lee Hargrove, Sr. and Dilcy Kearney Hargrove; and his siblings, Ethel Mae Davis, Tommy Hargrove, Melvin Kearney and Clarence Hargrove.

He is survived by: his son Samuel Lee Hargrove, Jr. (Carolyn) of Henderson, NC; his siblings, Lillian Best (David) of Henderson, NC, Roy Lee Hargrove, Jr. of Henderson, NC and Calvin Hargrove (Teresa) of Raleigh, NC; his sisters-in-law, Linda Faye Hargrove of Williamsboro, NC and Annie Mae Hargrove of Williamsboro, NC; and his close friend Artelia Hendrick Winston. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren.
