He was predeceased by: his parents, William E. Potter and Garnet Stoughton Potter; his sister Bunny Fisher; and his siblings-in-law, Scott Failor, Candy Failor and Sandra Failor.

He is survived by: his wife Shelley Hart; his children, Nikita Hanif (Sarfraz) of Aiken, SC, Chelsea Kenaston (Dave) of Aiken, SC and Dalton Hart (Mandy) of Camp Lejeune, NC; his stepsons, Nick Scala (Carolyn) of Yardley, PA and Josh Scala (Katharine) of Black Mountain, NC; his sisters, Penny Potter of Duvall, WA and Tracy Scott (Eric) of Monroe, WA; and his grandchildren, Grady, Nicholas, Myles, Connor, Emma Scala, Colton, Virginia, Madalyn Hart, Kaden and Kai Hanif.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to CarePartners Hospice in Asheville or ALS Foundation in Charlotte, NC.
