He was predeceased by: his parents, John Rommie and Margie Sumner Mercer. He is survived by: his wife Almena Thigpen Mercer; his daughters, Connie Mercer Bolda and Karen Mercer Benson; his grandchildren, Joey Rouse and Carmen Henninger; his children, Kaye Mercer Creech (Jackie) and Don Mercer (Joann); his sisters, Mildred M. Kennedy and Grace M. Whaley; his sister-in-law Dorothy Thigpen Johnston; and his son-in-law Tony Benson. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
