He was predeceased by: his parents, Johnnie Osborne Hipp and Gladys Ruth Hawkins Hipp. He is survived by: his wife Judith Lindler Hipp; his sons, Russ, Todd (Wendy) and Steve (Martha); and his grandchildren, Bryce and Kirsten.

Memorials may be made to Trellis Supportive Care in Winston-Salem.
