He is survived by: his spouse Debra Buchanan Summey; his children, Christy Barnes (Jason) of Gastonia, Ronnie Summey (Rebecca) of Bessemer City and Kevin Summey (Shannon) of Bessemer City; his grandchildren, Ariel Barnes, Megan Barnes of Gastonia, Sarah of Bessemer City, Nathaniel of Bessemer City, Samuel of Bessemer City, Kade of Bessemer City, Caleb of Bessemer City and Caila Summey of Bessemer City; his siblings, James Summey (Ruth) of Blacksburg, SC and Sara McKinnish of Raleigh; his nephew Michael Buchanan; his siblings-in-law, Dale Buchanan, Clinton Buchanan, Howard Buchanan and Vanessa Summey; and also, Sherry Buchanan, Trey Buchanan and Gracie Buchanan. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
