He was predeceased by: his parents, Daniel Forbes and Macie Mae Scism Bridges; and his siblings, Beatrice Warlick, Patsy Carver, Paul and Allen Bridges.

He is survived by: his wife Mary Bridges; his children, John Patrick "Pat" Bridges, II, Beverly Kay Herring and Jessica Bridges Calder (Stephen); and his grandchildren, Mandi Marie Bridges, Travis Russell Bridges, Amber Nichole Darby, Mickey Christopher Herring, Dawson James Calder, Thomas Jay Calder and Gracie Olivia Calder.
