He was predeceased by: his parents, Joe Ray and Willie Mae Rigsbee Ray; and his sister Sheila Sheppard of Raleigh. He is survived by: his wife Marion Catherine York; his former wife Alice Faye Cascell (James) of Rocky Mount; his children, Cindy Black of Youngsville, Dawn Tant (James) of Battleboro and Chris Ray (Morgan) of Wilson; his stepdaughters, Anita Jones and Angie Holloman of Wilson; and his cousin Everette Matthews of Erwin. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
