He was predeceased by: his parents, James Murray and Mary Jane Phillips Murray; and his sisters, Christine Glass and Fern Auman. He is survived by: his wife Genevieve Hussey Murray; his son Michael Murray (Deanna) of Asheboro; his sisters, Esther Greene of Asheboro, Betty Mace of Ramseur and Montie Ingold (Leon) of Asheboro; his granddaughters, Hannah Smith (Shawn) of Coleridge and Brittany Hicks (Wesley) of Staley; and his great grandchildren, Lincoln Smith, Easton Hicks, Gracie Smith and Anniston Hicks.
