He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph Paul Maitland and Bernice Vanhorn Maitland; his sister Susan Maitland Grimsley; his brother-in-law Don Franklin Grimsley; and his nephew Bradley Glenn Grimsley.
He is survived by: his wife Nancy Chappell Maitland of Belvidere, N. C.; his stepsons, Brian Chappell (Minnie) of Tyner, N. C. and Jason Chappell (Peggy) of Belvidere, N. C.; his brother Billy R. Maitland (Sharon) of Roper, N. C.; and his stepgrandchildren, Gavin Chappell, Krysta Chappell, Ian Chappell, Valerie Chappell and Gideon Chappell.
