He was predeceased by: his parents, Gordon H. Hunter and Laverne Taylor Hunter; and his son Dale Gordon Hunter, Jr.. He is survived by: his wife Kathy Rountree Hunter; his son Jason Dale Hunter (Tara) of Chesapeake, VA; his brother Raymond Hunter of Philadelphia, PA.; his stepdaughters, Kelli L. Price (Brandon) of Belvidere and Kylli L. Priest (Cullen) of Hertford; and his stepgrandchildren, Bella and Kaeli Price.
