He was predeceased by: his parents, John Willie and Margret Smith Bethea of Robeson County; and his wife Willie Mae. He is survived by: his sons, Wendell, John L. and Melvin; his grandson David; his siblings, Sarah, Louise, Annie Lee, Margret Ann, Johnny, Clifton, Bobby and Leroy; his children, Charles Kelly, Angela (Charlotte) and Wilbert, Jr. (Shanta); his grandchildren, Kelly, Kaleb and Minnesa; his great grandchild Kaedyn; his siblings, Lucille (Lee Artist), Leo and Curtis; and his brother-in-law Wilbert.
