He was predeceased by: his parents, Thomas Baum Payne and Maida Keech Payne; his son Thomas "Ellis" Payne, Jr.; and his siblings, Phillip Payne and Judy Payne.
He is survived by: his daughter Tammy Chesson of Belhaven; his grandchildren, Derrick Chesson (Hannah) and Whitney Chesson; his great grandchild Kelsey Chesson; and his brother Robert Payne of Pinetown.
