He was predeceased by: his parents, Joe Robert Foster and Margaret Marie Short Foster; and his son Robert Christopher Foster of Florida. He is survived by: his wife Sonja Marie Ellefsen; his children, Amy Hardy (Dean) of Washington and Dalton Windley of Chocowinity; his stepson Allen Navarro of Belhaven; his grandchildren, Michael, Christopher Foster, Wesley Hardy and Zoey Hardy; and his siblings, Becky Jo Bell of Pamlico Beach and Jimmy Ray Foster of Pantego.
