It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Joseph Earl Smith Jr. of Belhaven, North Carolina, born in Raleigh, North Carolina, who passed away on April 29, 2021, at the age of 79, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph Earl Smith and Joyce Faith Benson Smith; and his brother George Michael Smith. He is survived by: his wife Julia Davis Smith; his sons, Kemper Battle Smith (Christy Sekelsky) of Wake Forest and Joseph C. "Jody" Smith (Victoria Dunstone) of Youngsville; his grandchildren, Shelby Greer Smith of Wake Forest and Hannah Rae Smith of Youngsville; his siblings, Candy Smith King (W. A. King) of Raleigh, Sue Smith Cheek (Dan Cheek) of Garner, Phillip Benson Smith (Sudie Smith) of Belhaven and Adam Lee Smith of Raleigh; and his siblings-in-law, Jane Smith of Wake Forest and James C. Davis of Clayton. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and extended family.
