He was predeceased by: his parents, William J. Gardner, Sr. and Hazel Dill Gardner. He is survived by: his wife Norma Merrell Gardner; his children, Kelly G Stainback and Todd Gardner (Renee Spear) of Beaufort; his brother Stephen Gardner (Jill Heilman) of Hillsborough, NC; and his brother-in-law Wayne Merrell (Esther) of Beaufort. He is also survived by his family and friends.
