He was predeceased by: his parents, Edwin Yelton and Lucy Green Yelton; his son Robert Luther Yelton; and his siblings, Thelma Forbes, Floyd and Carlos Yelton.

He is survived by: his wife Maxidean Mosley Yelton; his daughter Vicky Sue Peterson (Rick) of Green Mountain; his granddaughter Amanda Johnson (Hunter) of Huntsville; and his great grandchild Brooklyn Paige Johnson of Huntsville, Alabama.. He is also survived by Several nieces, nephews, cousins and numerous friends.
