She was predeceased by: her parents, James C Smith Jr. of Erwin, TN and Genevieve Bennett; and her stepfather Ozelle Johnson of Bakersville. She is survived by: her husband Larry Gortney; her children, Todd Gortney of Lowell, NC, Chris Gortney of Charlotte, NC and Susan Callahan (Mack) of Bakersville; her sisters, Sue Wiseman of Spruce Pine and Renita Yelton (Wade) of Bakersville; her grandchildren, Michael Gortney (Jamie) of Charlotte, Cecily Gortney of Ranlo, Matthew Trull and Marissa Trull of Spruce Pine; and her great grandchildren, Jaid, Delilah, Abi, Nealy and Oaklynn.
