She was predeceased by: her husband John Gudger Fortner; her sister Mae Teresa Ballard; her parent Methodist Freeman; and also Bakersville. She is survived by: her daughter Susan Fortner Ballard (Paul); her grandsons, Christopher Paul Ballard of Weaverville and John Gudger Ballard (Jillian) of Black Mountain; her son Henry Joseph Ballard; her great grandchild Henry; and also, Fort, Betty Cooper of Weaverville and Martha Wiggins Freeman. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
