He was predeceased by: his parents, David Buchanan, Jr. and Helen Howell Buchanan; his son David Powell Buchanan; and his brother Ronnie Buchanan. He is survived by: his wife Sandra Ball Buchanan; his children, Mike Buchanan (Johnie) of Asheville, Darla "Sis" Kegley (Victor) of Mt. Mitchell and Brandon Buchanan (Daphne) of Bolens Creek; his grandchildren, Jeremy Buchanan (Marissa), Kearstin Buchanan, Nathaniel Buchanan, Jerod Buchanan and Tiffany Downer (Alex); his great grandchildren, Kelci, Kambry, Lexi, Laken and Kendrix; and his sisters, Sue Aswell (Robert) of Wentworth and Linda Hopson (Ralph) of Fork Mountain. He is also survived by other nieces, nephews and other extended family.
