He was predeceased by: his parents, Holden Buchanan and Dolly Pitman Buchanan; and his siblings, James, Joe, Clarence Buchanan and Margaret Greene.

He is survived by: his wife Vernell Martin Buchanan; his son Matthew Buchanan (Libby); his granddaughters, Sarah and Chloe; and his siblings, Dean Buchanan, Judy Murphy, Pauline Burleson and Kathryn Pate.
