He is survived by: his parents, Paul Starling of Wilson and Lou Ann Rushton of Wendell; his daughter Mercedes Starling (Tristan O'Brien) of Pikeville; his brothers, Dexter Cherry (Megan) of Snow Hill and Christopher Cherry of Middlesex; and his grandchildren, Laila O'Brien and Madison O'Brien.
