She was predeceased by: her parents, Robert Edgar Cathey and Minnie Cathey; her husband John Carpenter; her daughter Mitzi Morton; and her granddaughter Lauren Hinson.
She is survived by: her son Jeffrey Carpenter of Charlotte, NC; her children-in-law, Tim Morton and Debbie Saxton of Albemarle, NC; her great grandchildren, Taylen Sullivan, Holden Sullivan, Gatlin Sullivan, Payton Meyer, Lauren Meyer, Charlotte "Charlie" Meyer and Delilah Morton; and her pet Chloe. She is also survived by three grandchildren.
