He was predeceased by: his parents, Rowland Greenwald and Dorothy Greenwald (Watson); his wife Patricia; and his grandson Tristan J. Hensley. He is survived by: his son R. Derek; his daughter-in-law Johna Marie Greenwald of Ayden, NC; his daughter Kimberly Jo; his son-in-law Howard Moore of Vanceboro, NC; his grandchildren, Raven Cheyenne Greenwald, Kathryn Ramos (Daniel), R. Justin Hensley, R. Hunter Hugh (Riley Bryant) and Dakota Shayne Greenwald; his great grandchildren, Ryan, Byrstal, Jessi, Levi, Allen and Josiah; his nephews, A. J. Middleton, Steven Merchant, Chuckie Merchant and Greg Merchant; his sister Yvonne "Sis" Merchant; and his nieces, Nikki Merchant and Terry Merchant. He is also survived by many other nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family is accepting donations to help defray the costs that his illness has created and may be made by.
