She was predeceased by: her parents, Thad Calvin McLawhorn and Rhodie Mae Lea McLawhorn; her husband Joe James Key; her daughter Polly Moore; and her brothers, Theodore and Robert McLawhorn.
She is survived by: her close friend Dallas Clark of Hertford; and her children, Calvin Riggs of New Bern, Mae Whaley of Pollocksville, Luwanna Sue Sampson of Hertford, Rose Colson of Hertford and Arlene "Cricket" Colson of Elizabeth City. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
With restrictions associated with the Covid-19 Pandemic, no formal visitation will be held.
