He is survived by: his wife Mary Newton Smith; his son Maurice Burney of Ayden, NC; his stepsons, Marvin Newton of Farmville, NC and Kevin Reid of Texas; his daughters, Joyce Ann Taylor of Walstonburg, NC, Tammy Small of South Carolina and Afreda Barnes of Greenville, NC; his stepdaughter Lashona Newton of Ayden, NC; and his siblings, Truman Smith of Ayden, NC, Bobbie Smith of Ayden, NC, Pavella Barfield, Mary Evans of Maury, NC, Joyce Suggs of Browntown, NC and Ruby Carter of Virginia. He is also survived by other relatives and friends.
