He was predeceased by: his parents, Ralph Edward Penland and Arsula Pressley Penland; and his siblings, John Phillip Penland, Dixie Franks, Fraces Ray and Ann Ledford.
He is survived by: his wife Mary Elizabeth Lowe Penland; his children, Derrick Edward Penland (Shannon) and Denise Wallin (Gary); his grandchildren, Kylie Powers (Trevor), Jacob Penland (Elizabeth), Jarrett Penland, Chase Wallin and Chloe Wallin; his great grandchildren, Emersyn Penland and Lily Powers; and his siblings, Walter Penland (Joy) and Margaret Thomas. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held on Monday, April 7th 2025 from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM at the Anders-Rice Funeral Home (1428 Patton Ave, Asheville, NC 28806). A funeral service was held on Monday, April 7th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
