She was predeceased by: her father Raymond Ellerbe; her husband Clemons Birkhead; her siblings, Lafayette Ellerbe, Raymond Jr. Ellerbe (Clara), Haywood Ellerbe, Otelia Alice Jones (Jack), Bernice Ellerbe, Verdell Davis (Earl), Inez Armstrong (Walter) and Katherine Jackson (Cleophas); and her son Winford Hines (Fanny).
She is survived by: her children, Shirley B. Greene (late James) of Asheboro, NC, Kathy B. Beamon (Ron) of Charlotte, NC and Sheriff Clarence F. Birkhead (Kathy) of Durham, NC; and her sisters-in-law, Monnie Lollar and Christine Ellerbe. She is also survived by eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
