He was predeceased by: his parents, David Smith and Bertha Miller Smith; his sister Julia Morgan; and his nephew William Davis. He is survived by: his children, Amy Sykes (Mitchell) of Asheboro and David Smith (Julie) of Raleigh; and his sisters, Joan Cagle of Steeds and Vi Smith (Ray) of Kernersville. He is also survived by two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
