He was predeceased by: his parents, Elbert Lee "Jack" Akers and Sarah Catherine Blount Akers; and his brother Elbert Lee Akers. He is survived by: his son James Richard Akers Jr. of Greenville, SC.; his siblings, Al Akers of Mississippi, Preacher Clyde Akers of Lexington, Susie Brinkley (Presto) of Mocksville, Charles Akers of Lexington, Joe Akers (Beth) of Lexington, Patty Chesson (Rick) of Lexington and Tim Akers of Myrtle Beach; and his close friends, Dean Forest, Roy Branch and Kevin Bostic.
