He was predeceased by: his parents, John Carter and Thelma Anna Crowley Carter; his wife Nancy Carter; his children, Kathy Ann Carter, J. H. Carter and Mark Glenn Carter; his granddaughter Alisha Carter; and his siblings, John P. "Buck" Carter, Carson E. Carter, Joseph B. Carter and Edith Brown.
He is survived by: his daughters, Darlene Mitchell (Todd DeForest) of Asheboro, Linda Sparks (Jerry) of Sophia and Sharon Hill of Sophia; his grandchildren, Ciara Massingale (Daniel), Heather Smith (Edward), Zachary Varner (Kaitlyn), Matthew Varner, Josh Carter, Christian Carter, Jay Hill, Daniel Hill and Jimmy Lee Hill; his great grandchildren, Luna Massingale and Holden Smith; and his siblings, Carlos R. Carter of Patrick, SC, J. Cecil Carter of Asheboro, Freddie W. Carter of Patrick, SC and Barbara Dixon of Hartsville, SC.. He is also survived by great grandchildren.
