He was predeceased by: his former wife Inez McDowell Welborn; his parents, John Leonidas and Rosa Kidd Welborn; his siblings, Joyce Kinney, Esther Juanita Kinney, Edna Welborn, Lelia Welborn, Cleo Welborne, Carl Sidney Welborn, Jay Clegg Welborn, Delano Welborn and Glen Ray Welborn; and his half-sisters, Fleta Thomas and Mozelle Dixon.

He is survived by: his wife Sylvia W. Isom Welborn; his children, Regina Maness (Johnny) of Denton and Renay Welborn (Doris) of Franklinville; his sisters, Lillie Isley of Ramseur, Velna Williamson of Franklinville and Gladys Byrd (Jim) of Asheboro; his stepson Gene Isom (Angie) of Asheboro; his grandchildren, Dallas Ann Hurley (Robert) of Ramseur, Jared Todd Welborn (Misty-Dawn Welborn) of Canada, Avery Jackson Maness of Denton, Brandon Isom and Addyson Isom; and his great grandchildren, Reid Hurley and Benjamin Welborn. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
