He was predeceased by: his father Ernest Johnson Sr.; and his brother Bobby. He is survived by: his children, Mary Bair (Robert), Ernie Johnson III (Sherri), Brian Johnson (Amy) and Michael Johnson; his siblings, Wanda, Barbara Ann, Ricky and Jessie Lee; his grandchildren, Cody Johnson, Sydney McNair, Michael Johnson, Jr., Gabriel Johnson and Gavin Johnson; and his great grandchildren, Liam Johnson, Eli McNair, Mallorie McNair and Aubrey Johnson.
