He was predeceased by: his former wife Tina Kinney Smith; his parents, Jack Wallace and Doris Jones Smith; and his parents-in-law, Shirley Dickens (Henry) and Marvin Harris.

He is survived by: his wife Carole H. Smith; his son Bradley Smith (Melissa) of Ramseur; his stepson Derek Willett of Winston Salem; his sister Debbie Johnston (Darrell) of Asheboro; his grandchildren, Jordan Smith of Ramseur, Hailey Smith (Anthony) of Ramseur, Abby Willett of Winston Salem, Tracy Witsaman (Kurtis) of Ramseur and Noah Hall (Rosie) of Ramseur; his great grandchildren, Levi of Ramseur and Ryley Witsaman of Ramseur; and his sister-in-law Diane Trogdon of Asheboro. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and his special cat.
