He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert Harold Sams and Bette Greene Gaines. He is survived by: his wife Marsha Elliott Sams; his son John Tyler Sams of Arden, NC; his sister Jeanie Christenbury (JImmy) of Concord, NC; his nieces, Kelly Schwartz (Jason) of Charlotte, NC and Lauren Schwoebel (Matt) of Mint Hill, NC; and his great-nephews, Parker Schwartz, Bryson Schwartz and Will Schwoebel.
