He was predeceased by: his parents, David "Dave" Adkins Sr. and Ethel Williams; and his siblings, Conway, Steve, Gobel (Bill), Edgel, Ellen, Ortha Lou, Wanda and Grace.

He is survived by: his wife Doris Adkins; his stepson Randy Hensley of Arden; and his sisters, Doris Belue of Asheville, Linda Meadows of Candler and Vivian Conard of Candler. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
