He was predeceased by: his parents, William Rayford Mitchell and Margaret Wilson Mitchell; his daughter Melissa Mitchell McLain; his granddaughter Ashley Nicole Fite; and his siblings, Diane Wilkins, William "Doug" Douglas Mitchell and Ronnie Mitchell.

He is survived by: his wife Diana Goodwin Mitchell; his son Todd Mitchell (Wendy); his brother Mike Mitchell (Debbie); his siblings-in-law, JoAnn Mitchell, Dee Mitchell, Pat Wester (Johnnie) and Mike Goodwin (Sharon); and his grandchildren, Caitlin Crosson, Matthew Mitchell, Ethan Mitchell, Austin Edwards and Tyler Edwards. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
