He is survived by: his wife Jewell Dewar Coats; his children, Candice Davis (Michael) of Davidson and Wilbert "Bert" Coats, III of Benson; his grandchildren, Ryder Coats and Chase Davis; and his siblings, Ruth Merle Coats (Robert) of Auburn, Ricky Coats (Teresa) of Auburn and Edward Coats (Patricia) of Raleigh.
