He was predeceased by: his parents, Stewart C. Hemby and Ruth West Hemby; and his children, Stewart C. Hemby III of Charles, E. L, David D. Hemby and Bunita J. Hemby.
He is survived by: his wife Linda J. Hemby; his sons, Mathew "Bill" Hemby (Cyndi Jo) and Art Hemby (Helen); and his stepchildren, Shannon McClements, Matthew McClements, Timothy McClements and Jennifer Kirby (Robert). He is also survived by five grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews.
