He was predeceased by: his parents, Carrie Elisabeth and Grover Artis Smith; his son Mark Smith; and his siblings, Mary McKinney, Myrtle Ray, Loyce Smith, Ralston Smith, Garland Smith, Grover Smith, Shirley Martin and Charles Smith.
He is survived by: his wife Barbara Faye Gilliam; his son Richard; his daughter-in-law Stephanie; and his sister Patrica Mills.
