He was predeceased by: his mother Marie Williams Johnson; and his brother Alton "Goody" Johnson. He is survived by: his father Carl R. Johnson; his wife Brenda Jeanette Houston Johnson; and his siblings, Darlene Matthews of Angier, Randall Johnson (Sherian) of Angier, Ronnie Johnson (Sue) of Raleigh and Donald Johnson of Bowman, GA. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
