She was predeceased by: her parents, Lara Hickman and Gladys Neal Hickman; and her son Richard "Rick" Tyer. She is survived by: her children, Gladys MacDonald of Angier, Edward "Ed" Tyer of Mississippi, Mitchell "Mick" Tyer of Angier and John Taylor Tyer of Virginia; and her sister Lois Faye Tew of Tarboro. She is also survived by nine grandchildren; numerous great-granchildren; several great-great-grandchildren.
