He was predeceased by: his parents, Erastus R. Guffey and Margaret Ensley Guffey; his brothers, William Paul Guffey and Jimmy Ensley; and his stepson Jeff Bates.

He is survived by: his daughter Tammy Guffey Shimon (Scott) of Marquette, MI; his granddaughters, Macie Shimon Huskey and Mindy Shimon; his brother Timothy Guffey of Burlington; his former wife Martha Guffey; and his stepchildren, Ann Pierce and Wayne Bates. He is also survived by two nieces, one nephew and one grand-niece.
