He is survived by: his wife Margaret Penland Thomas; his children, Gerald (Molly Thomas) of Robbinsville, NC, Connie (Travis Hooper) of Robbinsville, NC, Caren (Tony Jones) of Murphy, NC and Carol (Mitchel Hayes) of Whittier, NC; and his brother Nick Thomas. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren.
