He was predeceased by: his parents, Lawson Alexander Burris and Nancy Jane Burris (Eudy); his wife Avanelle "Abbie" Osborne Burris; and his siblings, Jennie V. Lee Morgan, Ray Lee Burris and Billy Joe Burris.
He is survived by: his children, Mark W. Burris of Albemarle and Sarah Butts (William) of Charlotte; and his grandsons, Samuel and Benjamin Butts.
