He was predeceased by : his parents, Raymond Louis Thompson and Macy Norton Thompson; his wife Betty Sue McQuague Thompson; and his son Derick Tlyer Thompson. He is survived by : his daughter Laurie Thompson Almond (David) of Albemarle, NC; his grandchildren, Daniel Almond (Tonya) of Albemarle, NC, Amber Hawkins (Joseph) of Albemarle, NC, Amanda Almond (Clinton) of Mt. Pleasant, NC and Cody Almond (Katie) of Albemarle, NC; and his great grandchildren, Dylan Almond, Riley Almond and Hezekiah.

A graveside service was held on Friday, June 21st 2024 at 11:00 AM at the Stanly Gardens (2001 E Main St, Albemarle, NC 28001).
