He was predeceased by: his parents, Vanuel Lee Burris and Osia Edwards Burris; his wife Julia Ann Mayberry Burris; and his siblings, Newell Curtis Burris, Dorothy Burris Efird and Lula Faye Burris Lamonds.
He is survived by: his son Charles David Burris (Bonnie) of Albemarle, NC; his grandchildren, Brian Burris (Jessica), Jason Burris (Hannah), Holly Knotts (Matthew) and Paige Smith (Matthew); and his pet Sheldon. He is also survived by 5 great-grandchildren.
