He was predeceased by: his father Frank Murphy; his wife Imogene Hill Murphy; his grandson Aaron Grizzle; and his siblings, Mildred Riley, Maydell Murphy, Ruby Peace, Juanita Howard, Edwin Murphy, Pete Murphy and Ted Murphy.
He is survived by: his children, Tim Murphy (Robin) of Graham, Benny "Snook" Murphy (Debbie) of Mebane and Pamela Foster (Doug) of Snow Camp; his grandchildren, Christy Lutterloh (Clay), Alan Murphy (Kristy), Matthew Murphy (Ashley), Kimberly Marrero (Javy), Corey Murphy and Breanna Grizzle; and his stepgrandchildren, Brandon Hirt, Whitney Brown (Mike), Dustin Hirt (Deirdre), Tanner Hirt and Michael Honeycutt (Kasey). He is also survived by 22 great grandchildren.
