He was predeceased by: his parents, James Stanley Leary and Edna Sewell Leary of Ahoskie; and his siblings, Lt. James Stanley Leary Jr., Stephen S. Leary, Dr. Thomas E. Leary, Edna Earle Leary Newsome and Fannie Marie Leary.
He is survived by: his wife Bess; his children, Deborah Cartwright (Ed) of Greenville, NC, William Leary Jr. (Rebecca) of Murfreesboro, NC, Catherine Newbern (Travis) of Greenville, NC and Stephen Leary (Cara) of Raleigh, NC.; his grandchildren, Laura, Meredith Cartwright, Christine Peduto, William Leary III, Coleton, Tanner Newbern, Elizabeth, Raegan and Maddox Leary; his brother Rev. David O. Leary (Bonita) of Morganton, NC; and his caregivers, Margaret, Imogene, Sabrina, Pat, Dianne and Linda. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
