He was predeceased by: his parents, Roy Allen and Mary Bunch Matthews; and his brother Jesse Matthews. He is survived by: his wife Finette Bryant Matthews; his son Larry Duncan Matthews (Winnie) of Ahoskie, NC; his granddaughter Jessica Matthews Brinkley (Josh) of Ahoskie, NC; his great grandchildren, Lily Ann Brinkley and Bryant Jackson Brinkley; and his siblings, Mary Jane Ruegger of Raleigh, NC and Spencer Matthews (Delores) of Ahoskie, NC..
