He was predeceased by: his parents, B. J. Nelson and Evelyn Nelson; his wife Doris Ann Nelson; and his sister Bonnie Kiser. He is survived by: his stepdaughter Sherry Coleman; his grandsons, Dustin James Hurley and Thomas Lee McCreary; his great grandchildren, Riley James Hurley and Olivia Layne Hurley; and his siblings, Ken Nelson, Dale Nelson, Tim Nelson, Kay Nelson Wall and Pam Nelson Doomy.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Forsyth Humane Society, 4881 Country Club Rd., Winston-Salem, NC 27104.
